Comparison between a script and a story: “Triffles” and “A Jury of Her Peers”

“Triffles” and “A Jury of Her Peers” talks about the mystery of knowing who committed the murder of John Wright, husband of Minnie Wright. The difference between these two are that one is written in narrative form and the other one is written as a play or script. It doesn’t change the plot of the story but in this essay, we’re going to see which type of writing is more effective.

First, the script is more precise than the narrative because in the script you can see or imagine exactly and how the characters are moving through the area. Meanwhile, in the narrative it doesn’t gives much attention to it. In the script you know what the characters think because of what they think but in the narrative form you know what the characters are thinking because the author shows or tells you. This means that you receive a clearer information of the thoughts of the characters on the narrative than in the script. Also, in the script you can’t get confused on where the events are going on because every time there’s a change of setting, its more marked with huge description of new settings than it is in the narrative form where there’s a paragraph after a paragraph talking of a lot of things which happens chronologically. In the narrative form it can be confusing the understanding of the setting in some events because the story is continuous. Also, the script its more fun and entertaining because the dialogues makes the story more real and gives you a better perspective of how things really happened. The narrative it isn’t so entertaining because it doesn’t the characters don’t tell the story, it’s the author who tells it. The script comes first if the story was created written and the narrative form comes first if the story was told orally. Another aspect where the script is more effective than the narrative is in the detection of the mood in the story. In the script, the mood is more palpable because the feelings of the characters are more obvious because of how they talk. In the other part, we have the narrative form which is more difficult of sensing the tone because the characters talk less, and the readers mostly found the tone when the author describes things or very happy or very sad. The narrative is more direct than the script in terms of going through the plot because it has less dialogue which means that it reduces the chances of interpreting the events differently from the author. The script gives more focus on the character rather than the situations. Because of this, the main theme is less obvious in the script than in the narrative because its less direct. In the script the characters are described more because the point is to understand the characters. In the narrative, the characters aren’t so important as the events that moves the plot.

In conclusion, stories can be written in different forms and still have a similar effect on the reader. For the question “Which is more effective?” I would have to say it depends on the reader and what type of reading he or she likes the most. Either a play or a narrative. I think the most effective way to express or tell a story is via dialogue and a script because for me, it seems more real and easier to picture how the plot moves from the introduction, to the climax, and to resolution.
