This comic is about a bunch of
shapes planning a party. Its main character is the circle. The circle gives the
idea of throwing a party to the other shapes and they agreed. Also, he was in
charge of bringing the drinks to the party while the other shapes had to bring
the snacks. Since the circle has the quality of being cheap, he bought just
water for the party because it was the cheapest thing in the market. Also,
hours before the party, her mom told him to eat before going to the party, but
he said that he was going to eat at the party. However, the circle couldn’t eat
anything at the party because he was allergic to seafood and every food on the
party was made with seafood. In this reflection I’m going to describe and
explain the comic, talk about some of the symbols and the meaning of the comic.
In the first two panels, it
appears four shapes without faces. These four shapes are a square, a triangle,
a cylinder and a circle. In the third panel, it appears a rack with different
types of drinks and prices on top of them. Also, the circle appears in it with
a shopping cart and some water bottles in it. In the fourth panel, is two
circles but one of them is bigger and it has a bow. Also, there’s a circular picture
of three circles hanging on the wall. On the fifth panel, there are all the
shapes, water and a table with food on it. On the last three panels the circle
is present. In the sixth panel is the cylinder with a plate of seafood on a stick.
In the seventh panel, there’s the triangle with a plate of triangular sandwiches.
In the last panel, there’s a square with a plate of chips and a dip.
In the first two panel, the
shapes are divided because that means that the circle is leading the
conversation. In addition, in those panels the shapes are planning the party and
deciding what each must bring to the party. In the third panel, the circle is selecting
the cheapest drink, (which is water) to buy it and bring it to the party. In
the fourth panel, the mother of the circle Is talking with circle about eating before
the party, but he doesn’t do it. In the fifth panel, the circle arrives to the
party with the water and asking for food which the other shapes brought. In the
last three panels the cylinder, the triangle, and the square offer the circle
some food, but he can’t have to deny everything because its made with seafood
and he’s allergic to it.
One of the symbols in the
comic is the shape of the dialogue boxes. In the panel three, the dialogue box is
in the form of a cloud because its symbolizes that the circle is talking to
himself or in his mind. In the panel one and five, the dialogue box is in the
form of spikes symbolizing that the message its said with emotion or
excitement. Another symbol is the lines of the bottle of water in panel three symbolizing
that the bottle is being moved from the rack to the shopping cart. The lines coming
out of the circle in panel five, symbolizes yelling or screaming. Another
symbol in the comic is the bow in the fourth panel which means that the circle who’s
wearing it it’s a feminine circle. In general, the comic has various meanings.
The main idea is that being miserly sometimes can cost you and more if you’re
not paying attention to the communication between your friends. The
conversation with the mother means that when a mother recommends you to do
something, the wise thing is to do what she says.
In conclusion, this comic
shows how much it can cost you to be stingy. It starts with the circle planning
a party with the shapes in which he plans to take advantage of. Its climax is when
everyone is offering him food, but he can’t eat any because he’s allergic to it.
It ends with the circle having to “eat” water because of not following his
mother recommendation and for being cheap and not telling his friends that he’s
allergic to seafood.
