Blog Reflection: Dramatic Script

A play is another way to tell a story. When we did the play "The Melting Pot" , it was with the idea to convey a message. It had to do something with relationships but we didn't think of romantic relationships because we didn't knew how to do it that way. Consequently, we created a play about friendship and how could it be ruined if we belief strongly in the stereotypes that the world creates. a little summary of the play is that four friends were playing a videogame about world war one day and the next day the game didn't appear. Then they started to blame on each other forgetting they're friends , when it was the manager who had it.
My overall experience working with my group to develop and perform the play was very hard. It wasn't pleasant the process of constructing the play. Every time it was a fight or discussion because of the difference of ideas and because of the lack of leadership of our part. At first, we got stuck and we were so far behind that the professor had to talk with us apart and give us kind of a memo. Then, to practice was very hard because not everybody could go to the practices but everyone had to participate. The process was really stressful but at the end , everything went kind of well and the hard work of some people paid off. Performing the play was very cool because I liked my character. It wasn't so pleasant though when I had to improvise because doing it can be dangerous for the play.
My character role in the drama was dynamic because my character started being happy with his friends, then he got mad at his friends (JJ- "You know what? I think it was you. Your history also says otherwise, what if you took it without permission like your people who enter that way to our country?") and at the end he ask to his friends to forgive him for his attitudes. (Benjamin- I'm sorry too for judging you guys. ; JJ- I feel you. (Everybody hugs.))
The main purpose of the script was to portray the negative side of stereotypes and that it can ruin friendships. I think the script purpose was successful because nobody had doubt of what was going on in the play and because it had a key phrase which brought together what was happening in the play with the purpose of the play. (Jorge- "...(chuckles) For once , stereotypes works for something.")
What I learned about myself as a writer is that I could be a very good one. In terms of creating stories, adding plot twist to it and to bring the events of the story all together at the end, I could be very good on that. Also, I understood that writing a play and acting it , it isn't the same. In addition, I learned that not always the events that I write on the script , happens in the play as I had in mind when I wrote them. This showed me the importance of descriptions on a script.
